Structure fire on Colorado ruled accidental
The Salem Fire & EMS Department responded to a structure fire at 530 South Colorado St. today at approximately 1:28 p.m. Two occupants were at home at the time of the fire, but were able to escape without injury after they were alerted by a smoke detector.
The first units arrived within five minutes of receiving the call and found light smoke coming from the building. Crews found a fire in one of the interior walls that had extended from the first floor to the second floor. Firemen were able to contain the fire to the wall and prevent it from spreading to other areas in the structure.
Approximately 20 personnel from the Salem Fire & EMS Department (Engine 1, Engine 2, Engine 3, Medic 802 & Medic 803) and the Salem Rescue Squad (Squad 1) responded to the call. Roanoke Fire & EMS Department Engine 4 provided staffing to cover additional calls.
The Salem Fire Marshal’s Office has ruled the fire accidental and the damage estimate from the fire is less than $10,000. The Salem Fire & EMS Department would like to remind everyone of the importance of having working smoke detectors.
