Photos: Salem High’s Dessert with the Arts
Laura Tucker shares these photos from Salem High School’s annual Dessert with the Arts show Monday, April 23.
Salem High’s ceramics, drawing, painting, and graphic art classes had works on display and some available for purchase.
For “dessert”, ceramic students donated their ceramic ice cream bowls to use as a fundraising program for local food pantries, and to benefit the art department and the Art Department Scholarship Program. For $10, the buyer selected the bowl they desire, make their own ice cream sundae, and takes the handmade bowl home. This fundraiser is based upon an international fundraiser using donated soup bowls made by artists and students across the world.
There was also a silent auction of selected ceramic vessels made by visiting artist from Korea, Mr. Park. The artworks were donated to SHS, and ceramic students glazed them after Mr. Park went back to Korea.
Part of the proceeds from the evening were donated to the Salem Food Pantry.
