SHS German Club ends successful year with German Honor Society inductions
Fifteen new members were inducted into Salem High School’s chapter of Delta Epsilon Phi National German Honor Society, a national organization sponsored by the American Association of Teacher of German on April 4. To qualify, students must have taken at least 5 semesters of German with a grade point average of 3.5.
New inductees: Cari Abner, Catherine Korsholm, Taylor Barker, Hannah Brownmiller, Will Fritz, Scott Gallagher, Megan Gauck, Isaac Heiler, Anna Hakkenberg, Spencer Huffman, Daniel Kessler, Lexi Phonasa, Holly Schlect, Autumn Stinnette, and Caleb Wilson.
Under the leadership of sponsors Stefanie Fowler and Dawn Gomez and club officers Michael LeFew, Brandon Shell, Jeremy Ledbetter, and Justin Hellier, the German Club conducted a successful Advent calendar sale, learned folk dances, completed service projects for the Turning Point Battered Women’s Shelter and Refugee Resettlement Services, wrote 300 Christmas cards to veterans, participated in the celebration of National Foreign Language Week, and supported the efforts of the Friends of Rachel Club. Members enjoyed an authentic German meal at the Edelweiss German Restaurant. This year will culminate with the presentation of the Senior Scholarship and the German Singers of Local Colors Scholarship at the awards assembly in May.
