Spartans edge Knights in girls soccer

ERIC BRADY | The Roanoke Times Taken 05/30/2012 Cave Spring goalie Haley Mitchell pulls down a Salem corner kick keeping it out of the goal during first half action at Hidden Valley during Region IV simi-final girls soccer Wednesday.

How close were Salem and Cave Spring in girls soccer this year?

Wednesday night the teams met for the fourth time, and like two of the previous three matches, the game was a 1-0 shutout. Salem came out on top this time, evening the season series 2-2. More important, the Spartans advanced to Friday’s regional final and clinched a berth in next week’s Group AA state tournament. Cave Spring is done for the season.
