Salem police narrow credit card information theft to Denny’s
The Salem Police Department has been investigating the theft of credit card numbers for the past week and has now narrowed the theft of information down to a local restaurant. Late on Friday, July 6, the department began receiving formal complaints from a number of local financial institutions whose customer accounts had been compromised with fraudulent transactions.
Further investigation has revealed that the credit card numbers were taken after patrons visited the Denny’s restaurant that is located on West Main Street in Salem. The investigation also has revealed that the credit card numbers likely were stolen electronically and not as a result of an on-site employee capturing the information.
The Denny’s franchise, RREMC LLC, is working along with the Salem Police Department and State and Federal authorities as the investigation into this matter continues.
Any patrons who have visited the Denny’s restaurant between February and June 2012, and have since discovered fraudulent account charges, are being asked to report the fraud to their respective financial institutions.
