Some parents object to possible Fort Lewis school closure

Closing the western Roanoke County school could save $450,000 by the second year

Kelly Saunders‘ oldest child is a second-grade student at Fort Lewis Elementary, a Roanoke County school that’s on the chopping block.

Saunders told the school board Wednesday evening that she wants her two younger children also to attend the school when they’re old enough.

“We chose our neighborhood. We chose our home. We chose it not because of the neighborhood but because of the school,” Saunders said.

Courtney Cutright of the Roanoke Times has more on this story.
