Glenvar community forum on alcohol is tomorrow, Sept. 19
The Prevention Council of Roanoke County shares the following statistics involving alcohol-related accidents:
- 64 crashes involving alcohol and 15- to 24-year-old drivers in 2009-2010
- 31 percent of drivers were male, ages 18-20
- 62.5% percent of drivers were ages 21-24
- 56 percent of crashes occurred between midnight and 4 a.m.
The Prevention Council of Roanoke County is currently working to understand the conditions and behaviors that have made these alcohol-related crashes possible. Staff and volunteers are looking for input from a wide range of community members: if you live or work in Roanoke County as a parent, a business owner, a teacher, a member of law enforcement or just a concerned resident, we want to hear from you!
For those interested in learning more, we invite you for the second of four community forums offered county-wide at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 19 in the Forum at Glenvar Middle School. We will have light refreshments, and everyone who participates in one of the four forums will be entered to win one of two $50 gift cards. Please note: only those who are 18-years-old or over are eligible for the drawing.
Please RSVP to Brittany Sandidge at bsandidge@pc4y.org. For more information about the SPF SIG Grant Project, or “Crash Prevention” project, please visit the website at www.pc4y.org.
