Salem resident Sherry M. Siska, is pleased to announce the publication of her two humorous mystery novels, “The Madams of Mischief” and “The Divas of Doom.”
The two books are the first two offerings in the Doom Divas series, and are set in a fictional town called Glenvar, Va., modeled after the city of Salem.
“I love to read humorous mysteries, such as those by Janet Evanovich and Carolyn Hart,” says Siska, who teaches English at Glenvar High School. “I’ve spent years reading books in this genre and decided somewhere along the way that I would like to try my hand at writing one. I’ve been a writer for as long as I can remember, but these books are the first I’ve put in reader’s hands.”
In “The Madams of Mischief,” Siska tells the story of how Glenvar DJ Marty Sheffield just wants to live her quiet life in her quiet town while recovering from being left at the altar by up-and-coming country music star Ricky Ray Riley. While babysitting her sister’s kids, Marty finds the body of a former classmate wedged in a 90-gallon trash container at a local park. With the help of her sister, Marty sets out to solve the mystery and save her own hide before it’s too late.
“Marty decides that The Madams of Mischief, Destiny, Chance and Lady Luck, are out to get her,” Siska says, explaining the title of the madcap mystery.
“The Divas of Doom” picks up a few months later and tells the story of how Marty thinks that Destiny, Chance and Lady Luck are still out to get her. Not only has she just lost her job as a part-time DJ, but after a knock-down, drag-out, mulch-flinging fight with one of her sister’s neighbors, Marty becomes the chief suspect when the man ends up dead. The only way to save herself is to find the real culprit before she is thrown in jail, or worse, becomes the next victim.
Both novels are available on Amazon.com for the Kindle and in paperback. They will be available for the Nook sometime in October. Siska is currently writing the third book in the series, “The Floozies of Fate,” and anticipates a pre-Christmas release.
“I’m thrilled with the response I’ve gotten from readers thus far,” Siska said. “I went into this with no expectations and am delighted with how well they are selling. Recently, ‘The Madams of Mischief’ has been in the top 10 of the comic fiction category at Amazon and the top 100 for mystery series books.”
