Glenvar Elementary School to receive free energy audit from US Green Buildings Council-Southwest Virginia
The US Green Buildings Council-Southwest Virginia (USGBC-SWVA) will conduct a free energy audit at Glenvar Elementary as part of their third annual Greens Schools Challenge. The 2013 Green Schools Challenge is a friendly competition to encourage students, teachers and administrators to implement a variety of no or low cost environmental actions at their schools to conserve natural resources and increase environmental awareness in our schools and communities.
Who: USGBC-SWVA, Glenvar Elementary students and faculty and Roanoke Cement Company & Terrazia PC
What: A professional energy audit that will engage students in energy conservation and display how energy is used and wasted by the building
When: Monday, Oct. 15, 2012, 9 a.m. to noon
Where: Glenvar Elementary School, located at 4507 Malus Drive in Salem
The program will begin with a brief overview and Q&A session followed by the audit itself. Students and faculty will accompany the audit team, Roanoke Cement Company & Terrazia PC, on a walking tour to witness the audit process. Following the audit process, students will present the findings at a local school board meeting.
