Here’s the official statement released from the City of Salem:
The City of Salem Police Department received a call at noon today concerning a traffic accident involving two vehicles in the area of 1765 Roanoke Blvd., which is near East Salem Elementary and the Arnold R. Burton Center for Arts and Technology.
The investigation determined that a black 2008 Dodge Charger, operated by a 50-year-old male from Sunflower Drive in Vinton, was traveling west on Roanoke Boulevard when he crossed over the solid double yellow line and struck a white 2007 Toyota Tundra pickup truck. The truck was driven by a 53-year-old male from Yellow Mountain Road in Roanoke who was traveling East on the Boulevard.
Both vehicles sustained extensive damage in the head-on collision and the driver of the Dodge Charger was transported to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital in serious condition while the other driver was not injured in the wreck.
The investigation is ongoing and no charges have been placed at this time. A portion of Roanoke Boulevard was closed in both directions for just over two hours as result of the accident.
