Roanoke County reminds voters of polling place changes and registration deadlines

With less than a month to go until this year’s General Election, the Roanoke County Registrar’s office reminds voters in Bennett Springs, Hunting Hills and Garst Mill precincts of important changes to their polling places.

Bennett Springs precinct will vote at Mountain Pass Baptist Church, 2975 Catawba Valley Drive. Voters in Hunting Hills precinct will cast ballots at the South County Library, located at 6303 Merriman Road. And lastly, voters in Garst Mill precinct will vote at the Cave Spring Rescue Station, 3206 Valley Forge Drive.

In addition to the changes in these three polling places, the Registrar’s office reminds all voters of these important upcoming deadlines regarding this year’s November 6 election:

• The last day to register to vote is Monday, October 15. Voter registration applications are available at the registrar’s office and most government agencies, including post offices, public libraries, Virginia Division of Motor Vehicles locations, and Social Services offices.

• Voter Registration forms are available on the Virginia State Board of Elections website at http://www.sbe.virginia.gov/VoterForms.html.

• The Roanoke County Registrar’s office will be open two Saturdays, October 27 and November 3 for Absentee Voting. Please note: Saturday, November 3 is the last date to vote absentee. The Registrar’s office is located on the third floor of the Roanoke County Administration Center at 5204 Bernard Drive, SW.

• The last day to request an Absentee Ballot by mail is Tuesday, October 30.

People with questions about the registration process, absentee voting, or their eligibility to register should call the Registrar’s office at (540) 772-7500.

More information about this year’s elections, including Sample Ballots and instructions on how to use Roanoke County’s electronic voting machines, can be found on the Elections website at www.roanokecountyva.gov/elections.

Voter registration applications are available at the registrar’s office and most government agencies, including post offices, public libraries, Virginia Division of Motor Vehicles locations, and Social Services offices. Registration must be completed 21 days prior to an election to be eligible to vote in that election. This year’s deadline to register is Monday, October 15, 2012. Voter Registration forms are also available to download from the Virginia State Board of Elections website at http://www.sbe.virginia.gov/VoterForms.html.
