The Salem Police Department welcomed Officer Stephen C. Swain to the force on Monday, Oct. 1, during a swearing-in ceremony at the Public Safety Building on Calhoun Street.

Swain began his career in law enforcement at the Roanoke County Sheriff’s Office in 2005 and a year later joined the Salem Sheriff’s Office. He has been a Sheriff’s Deputy in Salem since 2006. The William Byrd High School graduate has attended Virginia Western Community College and graduated from the entry level law enforcement school at Cardinal Criminal Justice Academy in May of 2012.

Swain will now undergo 12 weeks of field training with a Salem Police Department training officer.
