Red Cross’s Donorama blood drive set for Tuesday, Dec. 18 at Salem Civic Center

The Red Cross will host a blood drive, Donorama, on Tuesday, Dec. 18, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the Community Room at the Salem Civic Center. The Red Cross will provide food, music and giveaways, according to Red Cross donor recruitment representative Dahl Brown.

Donorama is “one of the largest community blood drives each year,” Brown said. “We’ve done it in Roanoke for 30 years, but the Salem event is brand new.”

Donorama began in Salem in June 2011, when the Red Cross collected only 37 pints of blood, Brown said. Popularity seems to be growing steadily, though; donations totaled 121 pints last December, she said. There is a need for all types of blood, according to Brown.
