The Rip City Baseball Training Center’s second-annual Major League pitching clinic featuring Jim Hickey of the Tampa Rays will be held Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, from 1 to 5 p.m.
“Coaches! Players! Parents! Don’t miss this chance to meet and learn from one of the most respected and successful pitching coaches in Major League Baseball today!” says Dave Christianson of Rip City Baseball.
Hickey is in his sixth season with the Rays, the longest-tenured pitching coach in club history. He has been to the postseason in five of his nine seasons as a major league pitching coach. Jim is one of just seven pitching coaches in the last 50 years to go to the World Series with two different teams: Tampa and Houston. In the last four seasons, Rays pitchers have posted their lowest team ERAs in club history. The Rays have set virtually every team pitching record under Hickey.
Topics covered will include:
- Major League Pitching Mechanics
- Understanding Effective Velocity
- Fastball vs. Offspeed Counts
- Rays Power Throwing Program
- Major League Pitching Approach
- Question and Answer Session
Limited openings are available. Pre-registration is required. The cost is $95 for one player and one adult. To register, call (540) 312-4102.
