Benjamin Critz joins father Blake on the Salem Police Department

The Salem Police Department welcomed Officer Benjamin Lee Critz to the force on Wednesday, Dec. 26, during a swearing-in ceremony at the Public Safety Building on Calhoun Street.

Benjamin is the son Lee Ann and Blake Critz. Blake is a current Salem Police Officer who has been on the force since 1991. He and Benjamin will now be the first father and son to serve as members of the Salem Police Department at the same time.

Critz is a 2008 graduate of Salem High School and he received his Bachelor of Science degree from Virginia Tech in 2012. Ben and his wife, Anna, reside in Salem.

Critz will start 19 weeks of basic training at the Cardinal Criminal Justice Academy on Jan. 14. After graduation, he will take part in an additional 12 weeks of field training at the department.
