Food Lion Charitable Foundation presents $10,000 check to Feeding America Southwest Virginia

The Food Lion Charitable Foundation presented a sizable check to Feeding America Southwest Virginia on Friday, Jan. 4, 2013. Amy Wilson of Feeding America Southwest Virginia shares this photo and the following news release:
Feeding America Southwest Virginia received a $10,000 donation from the Food Lion Charitable Foundation. The check presentation was made by Food Lion district manager, Rob Ward and store manager, Robert Harris.
“The Food Lion Charitable Foundation is pleased to present a check for $10,000 to the Feeding America Southwest Virginia,” Harris said. “We value our continued partnership and are pleased that we have an opportunity to help the community through this wonderful organization.”
Feeding America Southwest Virginia is reporting a nine percent increase in need for food assistance from their partner feeding programs. The Food Bank and their partner feeding programs feed over 122,000 people each month in Southwest Virginia. Food Lion’s $10,000 gift will provide 43,400 meals for the thousands of hungry men, women and children living in Southwest Virginia.
“Food Lion has been a partner in providing hunger relief to the local communities that we serve,” said John Shoulders, Senior Vice President of Business Affairs of Feeding America Southwest Virginia. “None of the work that is done at Feeding America Southwest Virginia could be done without the support of partners such as Food Lion.”
