Salem Police Department announces new officer
The Salem Police Department welcomed Officer Philip Johnston to the force January 7, during a swearing-in ceremony at the Public Safety Building on Calhoun Street.
Johnston is a graduate of Dayspring Christian Academy in Blacksburg and he currently is enrolled at Liberty University. He is also a member of the Virginia National Guard and served his country during a six-month deployment in Iraq.
Johnston and his wife, Kristin, reside in Roanoke County with their son, Austin.
He will begin 19 weeks of basic training at the Cardinal Criminal Justice Academy on January 14. After graduation, he will take part in an additional 12 weeks of field training at the department.
