I read the information from “So Salem”. The Roanoke’s Olin Gallery will host a second reception for the Roanoke Reef and Phenomenal Indicators exhibitors on Friday, Feb. 8, 2013 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Food and drinks will be served. The gallery is open from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. seven days a week. Crochet, needles, yarn, and more than a hundred aerated a unique semblance of sea life now on display at Roanoke College.
I took my son, Jerry there. He got his refreshments from the long table, and he sat down to eat and drink.
We went to the exhibition room, wow! we saw more than 1,800 multi-colored yard places crocheted by people in the Roanoke Valley and through the country in the past year and a half. The Roanoke Reef, an art exhibition know as the Hyperbolic Crochet Coral Reef, debuted on Jan 25, 2013 at the Roanoke college’s Olin Gallery.
I asked someone to take a picture with Nemo for me. These pieces resemble lifelike coral reef shapes, complete with star fish, sea urchins and anemone. Another display represents colored coral shapes. The white shapes resemble calcium deposits.
Old coat hangers, aluminum cans and plastic bottles, glued together and standing against on wall represents a Toxic Reef, which shows the harmful results of pollution and trash on sea life.
I met Abby Barron, who is working at the gallery, she helped us take some pictures. Oh! She stood beside Jerry in the picture. Jerry loves pretty girl.
Someone called my name, I turned around, and I saw Mary Powers, who is a teacher at the Salem High School. she knew Jerry, then we had a group picture with her family before we let the gallery.
The other thing was very surprising to me. When I asked a lady to help my pictures, I saw her colorful shoes (looked like art shoes). I told her, “I liked your pretty shoes”. Do you believe it ? I met her, and had a picture taken, I said “Be sure see her shoes”. Now I know she is director of Olin Gallery Fine Art. Her name is Taliaferro Logan. She did a wonderful job for everyone. I was glad to see her at the event. Thank You.
It was a wonderful to meet new friends and we enjoyed the event very much.
