VFW Post 4318 surrenders its charter
Charles Liebal and Jewell Hilton share their appreciation through a letter:
Darden C. Harmon VFW Post 4318 in Salem, Va, surrendered its charter to state VFW because of age of members, and lock of success in recruiting new members.
Post 4318 would like to thank the following groups for their support during the past 66 years:
1) The Salem Civic Center for allowing us to use their facility(rent-free) from some 55 years for our meetings.
2) The Disabled Veterans Chapters 3 and 4 for allowing us to use their building for our meetings the last 10 years.
3) Kroger’s stores at Lakeside, Sparton Square, and Ridgewood Farms and the post office in Salem for allowing us to use their facilities for annual “Buddy Poppy” Drive.
4) The thousands of men, women and children who filled our poppy cans with money which we in turn donated to the V.V.V.V, VAMC and many veterans and their families.
There are many fond memories that each of us will carry with us and as the Irish would say, “May the wind always be at your backs.”
Thank you all!
