Photos: Read Across America Day at East Salem Elementary School
East Salem Elementary School participated in Read Across America Day on Friday, March 1, 2013.
Several students from Salem High School (in the Junior Honor Association, the Interact Club and the Reading Club) visited all four elementary schools in Salem. During their visits, they read books and did Dr. Seuss-themed crafts with the students.
East Salem students also had a special treat during their time in the library. Teachers Kristin Wilkes, Sam Court (dressed as an Appalachian Trail hiker) and Janice Simmons and librarian Deborah Wright welcomed students to the library, Camp Read S’more (part of this year’s camping theme). The students enjoyed s’mores treats (a concoction of Teddy Grahams, chocolate chips and marshmallows) while they read the book “Teamwork,” about local football players Tiki and Ronde Barber.
