On March 17, Salem Police received information that a covert recording device had been discovered in the bathroom of a private residence in the city. The person who provided this information also was able to turn the device over to police for further analysis.
Additional investigation revealed what appeared to be digital video images of a nude juvenile female that were recorded on four separate occasions. The female was identified and investigators later determined that she was under the age of 18 when the images were captured. In addition, the victim was unaware that video of her was being captured.
On March 22, Dewayne Thomas Barger, 37, of Salem was arrested and charged with four counts of Possession of Child Pornography. He is currently being held without bond at the Roanoke County/Salem Jail and the investigation into this matter is on-going.
