The 2013 Mission of Mercy free dental clinic traditionally held in the spring has been moved to the late summer. It will be held on Friday, September 13 and Saturday, September 14 at the Roanoke Civic Center. The move was made in order to accommodate the schedules of health professionals who donate their time and talent, said Alison Jorgensen, Director of Capacity Building for the Council of Community Services. Jorgensen serves as the director for the dental clinic.
“The new dates provided more flexibility for dentist who want to assist the underserved, uninsured adults in the Roanoke Valley,” said Jorgensen. The Community Based Health Care Coalition (CBHCC) continues to spearhead this project. The CBHCC is an Advisory Council that originated from a Kellogg Foundation grant to identify community health needs. This will be the sixth clinic of this nature sponsored in the Roanoke Valley.
The Roanoke Mission of Mercy works in partnership with the Virginia Dental Health Foundation, which brings both public awareness and direct dental services to financially underserved populations throughout Virginia. As in previous years, patients will be required to have a ticket.
Project details including ticketing date and location will be posted on the Roanoke MOM website, http://www.roanokemom.org/ and on the Roanoke Mission of Mercy Facebook page. Additional information may be obtained by calling the Roanoke MOM information phone line. That number is 981-9406.
