Mike Kummer shares these photos and writes:
I was walking through Sherwood Memorial on the evening of August 14 when I saw this guy or gal in the road in front of me, with a Yoplait yogurt cup stuck on its head. Fortunately, the cemetery was already closed to traffic, and it was not near the park’s perimeter. Unable to think of any way I could help the poor critter without being bitten and/or sprayed, I called Animal Control, then hung around to see if it would extricate itself. I also kept an eye on the six other skunks in the vicinity. Nearly forty-five minutes after our paths crossed, darkness began to fall. The little fellow finally wandered into some dense landscaping along a side road, and emerged a few minutes later – minus its bizarre headgear. I waited for the skunk to wander off, then retrieved the cup – key lime pie, by the way- and properly disposed of it. The moral of the story: please don’t litter! And, pick up any litter that you find – a skunk might thank you.
