Many Salem High School students and parents were a bit puzzled to see their homecoming weekend is scheduled for September 13th and 14th, which is the second week of school.
According to Principal Scott Habeeb, the reasons for this were a combination of factors. The school has to reserve the Salem Civic Center for the dance on Saturday, which has to match up with a home game the night before. The Spartans go four straight weeks without a home game in October, starting with an open date, followed by three consecutive away games, making for limited options.
There will also be a change for when the Homecoming King and Queen are announced. They will be revealed on the field during the game against William Byrd on the night of the 13th. Salem previously announced their winners during school on Friday.
