At their monthly meeting on Tuesday, October 8, Salem City Schools recognized several individuals for their achievements in furthering education.
Among them were Dr. Tommy Barber and Matthew Chenet who successfully brought back the “Buddy Camp” in honor of Matthew’s late wife, Jill, who tragically passed away in 2012. Jill graduated from Salem High School and Washington and Lee University. She also was a student mentor for the Buddy Camp when she was a teenager.
Additionally, Salem High School teacher Laura O’Dell was recognized as a Gold Star teacher due to the success of her students on the Financial Literacy Certification Test. In order to qualify teachers must achieve a 90% pass rate. Gold Star Teachers are honored at the annual MoneyPOWER Conference for Financial Literacy, in New York City, on November 5.
