Dr. Cheryl Hopson, an assistant professor of English at Georgia Regents University and author of “Black Notes,” a book of poetry, will read excerpts from her book on Friday, Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. at Roanoke College’s Pickle Lounge.
Hopson also will sign copies of “Black Notes.”
Hopson, a 1995 graduate of Roanoke College, specializes in 20th century African American and American literature and culture. Her research focuses on mother/daughter relationships in the writings of black and black-identified women, along with ideas of empowerment and selfhood in women. She previously was a visiting professor in Roanoke’s English Department.
Hopson, a Roanoke Valley native, has a master’s degree from Radford University and a doctorate from the University of Kentucky.
