Roanoke County still checking on multiple reports of wires down

Here’s an update from Roanoke County fire and EMS:

Starting at about 2:30 this afternoon, fire and rescue personnel throughout the county have been inundated with emergency calls, responding to more than two hundred calls into the Emergency Communications Center over the past three hours. Although the storm has moved out of the county, there still remains approximately 30 calls for wires down that crews are checking out one-by-one. Although most of the calls were “wiredown” calls which includes trees onto wires, there were also a number of calls for vehicle e accidents with possible injury, brush fires, and several structure fires reported, but none were reported to be significant.

Fire and Rescue Personnel along with the Emergency Communications Center Dispatchers coordinate their efforts by prioritizing calls according to their severity and life safety dangers when there is a weather event such as today.

We have a round-up of storm photos — and video! — from around Salem here.

The Roanoke Times has regionwide coverage here.
