Fondue eatery has Roanoke on its radar

A well-known fondue restaurant says it’s seeking franchisees to open a Roanoke area location. I’m sure some of you have eaten at a Melting Pot restaurant. It serves all kinds of fondue as appetizers, meals and dessert.

Dan Stone, who is director of franchise sales for this Florida-company, told me that the Roanoke area is one of the chain’s open markets for a new location. There already are Melting Pots in other parts of Virginia, such as Charlottesville, Richmond and Virginia Beach. So, the chain currently is on the look-out for people interested in opening a Melting Pot in the Roanoke Valley.

According to the restaurant’s Web site, franchisees must invest $35,000 and an initial cash investment of $250,000 to $300,000.

Be prepared to spend if you dine at the Melting Pot. I've eaten there, and though tasty, the fondue meals are not inexpensive. Stone said the typical Melting Pot customer comes for special occasions about twice a year.

Interesting and creative but expensive - not the fondue of Swiss mountain ski resorts. If you want to dip French bread in melted gruyere in Virginia, you'll have to do it at home.

The Melting Pot at Gayton Crossing Shopping Center in Richmond was great when lived there. Many customers use it as a place to celebrate birthdays anniversares etc. Glad to hear they may come. But as we all know in the Roanoke Valley its nver a done deal till the doors open.

Melting Pot was a totally disappointing experience, absolutely not worth the money. I'd prefer a LaCrepe myself.

My wife and I are total foodies, myself having trained as a chef in the past. Our favorites in Roanoke - Table 50 and Ben Gui Sushi...

The Melting Pots in Greenville and Columbia, SC still carry some of our all time finest dining memories. A wonderful dining experience that lasts the evening, entices great discussions and provides for every palate.

I think a Melting Pot would be highly successful in Roanoke and am ecstatic over the consideration.
