June 20, 2008From dinnerware to a camera, some items cost less
Certain electronics, such as digital cameras, along with hotel room rates, women’s clothing and some dinnerware are supposedly priced lower than they were last year, on average. You may find that some of these items still are more expensive comparatively, depending on where you shop. But this is a bit of good news, considering all of the reports that prices for most everything in our lives are higher. Have you discovered anything that’s cheaper now compared with last year? I’m having a hard time thinking of examples, but I’m sure your thoughts will trigger ideas. |

Could be reduced demand due to less disposable income because of higher food and fuel prices.

Jenny,
Much to the chagrin of restaurant owners it is not only cheaper but more necessary than ever to cook and pack up your own lunch than eat out. With the cost of just about everything going up ‘fat’ is being trimmed. ‘Discretionary funds’ aren’t as abundant as they once were in the recent past.
This coming Friday and Saturday I’m putting on the ‘Mother-of-all-Yard-Sales’ where, among other things, one will be able to find excellent quality cookbooks in abundance. I too am cooking more than I ever have and I’m finding out, that except for the loss of a little time, that it isn’t such a bad thing.
Check out the web site I’ve created for the sale, and if you’re not doing anything at 7:00 am on Friday please stop by. BTW, I’m doing LOTS of advertising for this event (Roanoke Times ad, Roanoke Star-Sentinel ad, many yard signs and email blasts). I expect to have at least 75 folks waiting for me to open up my Yard Sale at 7 AM. It should be quite a sight. Be sure to bring a camera.
Ciao,

JennyEd, Your explanation is logical. I'm sure less demand makes prices for many of these items lower. And Raymond, thanks for the information about your sale. I'm hearing that many people are cooking at home more often to save money. I'm sure they would find your cookbooks helpful.

MichelleAccording to this article on msnbc.com it is a buyers market and cars are cheaper this year: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/25287252/
I just bought a 2007 Dodge Caliber for around $11,500 which is the Kelly Blue Book Value. I don't think that counts as cheaper, but it gets 30 mpg!! :)
