Sale stalls furniture orders

I hope you’re not one of many customers who have ordered furniture from Ashley Furniture Homestore in Roanoke and for months, have not received your items. But if you are, the retailer says your delivery is coming.

Ashley Furniture on Valley View Boulevard has been in the midst of an ownership change, which involves selling the store to a new investor. That’s a reason that some people who placed orders as late as March haven’t received their furniture, said the store’s general manager, Joe Overfelt. Most of the stalled orders are from the summer season, he added. Customers obviously have complained, and that’s why Overfelt called me recently to explain the situation.

Overfelt said all of the back orders are being “released immediately,” after being tied up in the sale process. Ashley Furniture, which is based in Wisconsin, will be contacting people to set up delivery times. Overfelt said he did not know the total number of back orders.

Most Ashley Furniture stores are individually owned, including the Roanoke location. But the sale doesn’t mean the end of this local store. There are no plans to close the store with the ownership swap, Overfelt said.

If I had placed an order in March, hmmm, let's see... that's almost 6 months ago. I'd say it's time to cancel the order and head over to Havertys. The longest I have ever waited is 6 weeks for a furniture order. I guess some people will put up with complete lack of customer care. Sorry Joe at Ashley Furniture, you would have lost my business at week #7.

I agree Di. I would have canceled those orders a long time ago. The only difference is that I would have went to Grand. I've never been impressed with service and price at Haverty's. It's good to hear that someone shops there though. I never see any cars over there so I wondered if they were close to going out of business.

Bad news for customers! I see where they have locked the doors today. Is this truly temporary or permanant?

I think it's time someone contact Ashley at the home office if they are waiting for furniture and have paid out any deposits or such. Don't just lay down and stand for this action by Ashley.
It may be that all of the furniture stores are suffering through these difficult economic times. I walked into Grand Furniture to browse this week and there were 8 sales people at the front door wanting me to pay attention to them. Felt like being surrounded by a pack of wolves and when I receive that action upon entering a store, I either ignore all of them or turn around and walk out. One or two sales people yes... BUT 8!!!! Sheesh

Yes, I saw that too Tami. Is it permanent? I was there last week and found a table I liked and was going to pick it up this weekend... guess that ain't happening.

A piece of advise for anyone still waiting on furniture (and for those who may order from a store in the future):

If you pay with a credit card (not debit) you have 60 days from the transaction date to contest the charge. If it is legitimately an 8 or 10 week lead time to get the furniture in, make sure you contact your credit card company before day 60 and let them know you've paid but not yet received the merchandise, and you are therefore disputing the charge. It takes months for a disputed charge to be resolved, so if you get the merchandise, you can contact the bank and let them know you are withdrawing your dispute.
Anyone who ordered from Ashley's after July 19 and paid by credit card should immediately dispute the charge with his bank, until the merchandise is in hand.
If you paid before July 19 or paid by cash/check/debit, you'll just have to cross your fingers and wait....

I saw this story on the news this morning and was immediately ticked off. If I were waiting for furniture that I may or may not get, I'd be on the phone every moment of every day until I received a full refund or my furniture.

I was in touch with Ashley at valleyview recently to find out how to file a claim on a premium warranty I had purchased from ASHLEY and was told to call MONTAGE FURNITURE.Well, MONTAGE says that ASHLEY should have given me a contract number in case I needed furniture repair. I informed them I had my reciept where I was charged $129.99.They said my warranty is no good.I will never purchase an extended warranty again.I should have known better after working at an automotive dealer.
