Sales tax holiday is coming
Virginia’s annual sales tax holiday for school supplies and clothing arrives on Aug. 6-8, just in time for those of you who are planning some back-to-school shopping.
Do you usually head out to stores to snag pencils, notebook paper or clothes during this tax holiday? This year marks the fifth year for this statewide savings weekend, when certain school supplies and clothing items are exempt from Virginia’s 5 percent sales tax.

Aug. 8: 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

A note for the retail blog about the closing of Bud Foster’s in Blacksburg.
It’s always sad to see a local business close BUT I, like many others gave
this place a chance to succeed and they just could NOT make it work. The
food was not good – in fact, I’d venture to say it was terrible!!! I went there
four or five times and finally gave up hoping that the quality would improve.
This is not about the economy – it’s a classic case of poor management -
and the inability to create a delicious menu that lives up to its promise.
Blacksburg has many restaurants that offer amazing food – and if Foster’s
does find an investor, the FIRST thing they MUST DO is improve the menu,
improve the service and give me a reason to go back.
