Hibachi Grill & Supreme Buffet to open at Towne Square

If you enjoy choosing from a wide variety of  cuisines in one meal setting, a new buffet that is on its way to Roanoke could meet your cravings.

Construction crews are renovating the former A&N store space at Towne Square Shopping Center in Roanoke to make way for a new eatery, Hibachi Grill & Supreme Buffet.

Andy Yang, who is directing the remodel and the opening of this new restaurant, said the eatery will serve 250 different food items in a large buffet format. The cuisine will include Chinese, Japanese, American,  Italian and Mexican. There also will be a sushi bar and a hibachi-style grilling area featuring a chef who cooks meals while diners watch. Salad, fruit and desserts also are available.

Yang expects Hibachi Grill to open its doors inside this large, 11,000 square foot space by early February.

Hibachi Grill serves a lunch and dinner buffet each weekday, and on Saturdays and Sundays, dinner is served all day. Lunch prices are $6.39 for adults and $4.39 for children ages 7 to 10 years old. Dinner prices are $8.59 for adults and $6.50 for children ages 7 to 10.

Lunch is served from 11 a.m to 3:30 p.m. Dinner is from 3:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Yang told me that there are at least 40 other Hibachi Grill restaurant concepts nationwide. He travels to the restaurant’s new locations to supervise the opening details.

Sushi near the airport – YAY!

  2. pmac | January 7, 2011 at 12:28 pm

Sounds very similar to the Szechuan restaurant already there. Especially the grill part

  3. pmac | January 7, 2011 at 12:36 pm

Between Szechuan, Golden Corral and now this maybe we should call it Buffet Square! Prices seem a bit better though.

This does sound good. I hope it is. I believe it sounds more like a Ichiban/Kabuki type grill, not the like mongolian bar at Szechaun, and much more selection of food, so it should be a good addition.

Chinese, Japanes, Italian & Mexican at the same place? I can’t see all of them being done well.

  6. Linda | January 7, 2011 at 2:40 pm

Don’t get too excited…it is a chain restaurant with several locations in NC. I have found the food is often cold and many items are imitation. It was great when it first opened but a month later, very disappointing.

Dave – that was my first thought exactly!

  8. Gary M | January 7, 2011 at 5:39 pm

There is one in Lynchburg and the food and selection is outstanding. You will be amazed!

  9. Jack | January 7, 2011 at 10:30 pm

Its like dining in a warehouse. No charm, just very cold surroundings and plenty of overweight people eating food they think is “healthy”. LOL!

  10. E. Duane | January 8, 2011 at 4:47 am

It will never succeed……here in Roanoke! You simply can’t do all that variety of food and have it come close to being well maintained…..”Fresh” . They will attempt to carry the food over for days. Health Dept. should watch this one very closely. Really, what’s the point? It’s hard enough to find anyone good restaurant, let alone one of this concept.

There is one similar in Lynchburg that is packed constantly. Love the hibachi grill where you choose what you like and then they grill with your choice of sauce. Yum!

I just can’t imagine a free-standing “sushi bar” hanging out there with a bunch of quesadillas and pizza. Call me a snob, but if I’m eating raw fish, I want it from a place that specializes in it.

  13. Scott | January 11, 2011 at 4:03 pm

Wow I am still amazed how there is “it wont last in Roanoke” – how many times have we heard that? many of you said that about Panera Bread – now theyu have 2 lcoations in area that do quite well.

If someone opened a store selling Gold bars for $5 you would say “wont last in Roanoke, people dont know about gold, or like gold in Roanoke”

some of you have already in your mind closed this place down and ready to complain they closed.

  14. Rmac | January 12, 2011 at 7:26 am

You are right Scott. The other thing they cry is “It’s a chain, we hate chains!” You know, it grew into a chain because they were doing something right. Not every business in the country has to be a Mom and Pop operation, we are long past Little House on the Prairie.

  15. MeJustMe | January 12, 2011 at 12:57 pm

Anybody know if they will have crab legs on this buffet??

  16. Jenny Kincaid Boone | January 12, 2011 at 2:16 pm

    MeJustMe,
There will be some seafood on the buffet, such as shrimp, crab meat and salmon, but I don’t know about crab legs. I’ll check on it and let you know.

The one in Lynchburg is awesome!!! If you get the chance, check it out – you’ll be excited about the one in Roanoke. It’s an odd combination thought…but when you get in there it’s really good. Especially if you are dining with a group of people who have different tastes…I personally like Sushi, can’t get another member in my family to even think about it…this gives me the chance to take up on fresh sushi – made in front of you – to order – while, my family dines on thier liking.

will it have a good number of options for vegetarians? will parking be easy?

  19. Deb | February 2, 2011 at 7:31 pm

It’s all a matter of personal preference. I think this new restaurant will be very successful and price is good. If you are looking for prestige in dining….and can afford it…head downtown.

  20. Customer0303 | March 3, 2011 at 1:17 pm

Don’t go there without cash in hand – two times we have been there at lunch and their credit card system has broken down and unable to process credit cards. They didn’t even have the old-fashioned card swipe machine and forms to use.
    Food is good otherwise….

  21. baddestbasset | March 7, 2011 at 6:10 pm

it’s not bad for vegetarians (spring rolls, veg lo mein, rice, those yummy asian green beans, etc).. the hibachi grill and sushi are prepped in front of you so you can request whatever you’d like. they don’t have bean curd of any sort which was a little disappointing, but overall it was very nice (:

  22. customer007 | March 8, 2011 at 4:42 pm

The food is excellent! The staff is friendly and the variety is wonderful. I enjoyed dining there.

  23. nln | March 29, 2011 at 2:15 pm

This is the WORST food in town. Don’t waste your time or money. Everything is floating in grease, nothing stays stocked, and the only Italian food was pizza and I saw no Mexican and the only American food was probably the miniature pieces of steak floating in a tray of ? It is a joke.

  24. Kecia Conley | April 26, 2011 at 9:30 am

There is one in Lynchburg, which is good and has tons of variety.

  25. Mia S. | April 26, 2011 at 4:42 pm

We went for the first time last week. Great food. I like it because our kids can get what they want and it doesn’t cost me an arm and a leg. The food was hot and fresh (the best time to go is early dinner), and the sushi was great. I highly recommend it for families. Now if you’re lookinig for a dining “experience”, this ain’t the place for you.

  26. Sal J | May 19, 2011 at 7:35 am

Ate here on Mothers day and the food was pretty good but people practically knocked me down to get food! It was crazy. We will not eat here again on a special occasion like mothers day or when others celebrate the same day. There are too many inconciderate people who do not know how to act in public. Where we were seated we couldnt get out to go back to the bar, too many people! Seating arrangements on busy days not the best but the food is worth the price. would be better on a different day.

  27. joe g | May 19, 2011 at 7:42 am

food was ok. Place across the street is better and cheaper. We were charged $4.95 for my 3year old grandson who ate about $1 worth. Most places allow children that young to eat free or a lot less. I would have been happy with $2.95. Not that much “kid” food. Lots of grease too. I was disappointed, was expecting more from the buildup. HOpe it gets better with time. Will go back one more time to give them another shot but the price is pretty high compared to the place across the street and that place has really good food and from what I saw, all the overeaters come to this place!

  28. Mama Nic | July 3, 2011 at 5:07 pm

You can’t expect a lot from a place that has a LARGE buffet like this one. Yes, Szechuan is waaay better, but they don’t put out a lot of food and so they are able to focus and perfect the dishes that they put out. It’s a lot like Golden Corral where they open cans and frozen items and dump it into chafing dishes. But, hey, I’m not complaining! It’s cheap, simple, and easy!

What we have enjoyed about Hibachi is that it gives you a little bit of everything. My kids LOVE sushi! We would prefer to go to a Sushi establishment, but it costs so much! Here, they can dig in on sushi and we can have something from the grill, pizza, or comfort dishes. It’s not going to be top quality when you have 6 rows of buffet options, but, again, it’s a good, cheap way to feed the family when you can’t agree on where to go!

We love it and will keep going!

  29. Prefers Quality | July 4, 2011 at 10:42 am

If you don’t care about ambiance, and your preference is for a lot of ubiquitous, gloppy, pre-prepared STUFF, this is definitely the place for you. Go ahead and heap it on, and shovel it in. Oh–and, please don’t invite your vegetarian or vegan friends to come along; they’ll starve (unless they’d be satisfied with miso broth, and the very basic, iceberg lettuce and tomato and canned peaches salad bar).

But,if you like Chinese buffets, and, you prefer quality (I do) The Red Palace at Valley View is beyond comparison.

  30. Searching Bear | October 6, 2011 at 10:53 am

The combination of Asian, Italian, Mexican, Chinese and Japanese food in the same location may sound strange. Actually, what about hamburgers, fried chicken, pizza and tacos under the same roof? Think McD, BK, Wendy’s and Hardee’s.

I was in college, in Greenville, NC, when one of the first Hardee’s in the U.S. opened. They sold burgers, fries and soft drinks…and that was it…take it or leave it. It was cheap…we took it.
