Buffet restaurant’s opening nears

Here is a taste of food news to start off your Friday morning.

Look for Hibachi Grill & Supreme Buffet to open its doors on Feb. 23 at Towne Square Shopping Center in Roanoke.

Andy Yang, who is directing the new restaurant’s remodel and opening, told me that crews are putting the finishing touches on the space’s renovation, and he’s also hiring restaurant wait staff.

Hibachi serves a large buffet of Chinese, Japanese, American, Italian and Mexican foods. Its buffet includes a salad and sushi bar and a hibachi-style grilling area.

The restaurant will open inside the former A&N store space at Towne Square, near a Michael’s store. Read my previous blog post for other details.

In other regional food retail news, the Oasis World Market in Blacksburg is under new ownership, with some changes that include a new checkout system and expanded international foods and local food offerings. Check out this story for the details.

That restaurant reminds me of the old axiom ‘A Jack of all trades and master of none.’ Sounds like they are tyring to cater to and please too many people with that sort of line-up. I hope it works, I’ve not seen too many places be successful with that kind of variety. I certainly would not go to a place called Hibachi for Italian or Mexican food, but that’s me.

I’m looking forward to it! I think that if you’ll look around at many of the area’s other buffets you’ll find at least some variety of ethnic food! I know that Golden Corral has some basic Mexican food on their buffet, and many of the Chinese buffets have a few non-Asian foods available. Maybe it’s just me, but I don’t go to a buffet to find gourmet food anyway. The food is made in bulk and sometimes has to sit for a while so it just can’t be as good as made to order food! I like the selection that a buffet offers and Hibachi sounds like just the ticket! And look at the price! Six bucks and change for lunch w/ unlimited sushi!!!! I’m already feeling sorry for them when I go there!

Four restaurant attributes that should never appear together: “buffet, $6, all you can eat, and Sushi,” All this wrapped into one “restaurant,” with a little Mexican and Italian to boot? More terrifying than Golden Corral at 6 p.m. on a Saturday night.

There was a buffet back where I’m from that served all those different foods and other than the pizza, all were pretty good. Hope same goes here.

The only thing more scary, Rich, would be…”Day Old Sushi Sale!”.

The same is in Lynchburg, at the former Ryan’s Buffet, when we go there it’s very busy an turn over is quick. Very big variety, including regular daily American foods, like fried or baked chicken, different veg.’s . Excellant, an well worth money. food definately does not set there very long!!

I will probably check it out at some point. Sounds interesting….

Off subject, but does anyone know if Puppy Love at Valley View is permanently closed? Tried to go visit the puppies with my little girl the other day and it is all closed up. We didn’t walk across the mall though to read what the signs on the door said.

    Jenni,
The sign at Puppy Love states that the store has been closed since early February for renovations. I’m in the midst of trying to find out more details. Let me know if you hear any news.

There is a restaurant comparable to the offerings of this one in Akron, Ohio and
it is very successful. Also, 22.00 for dinner because of the crab legs, I guess.

I’m looking forward to having dinner here. Hope to check out a menu. I like
it all but my husband does not do Chinese.
