Retail Roundup: Shakers Restaurant getting complete renovation
Shakers Restaurant, celebrating its 25th year as a company and its 23rd year in Roanoke, will close for eight days this month for a floor-to-ceiling renovation.
The $300,000 renovation will take the restaurant from sports bar to a “sophisticated, casual grill,” said the restaurant’s founder and president, John Buckles.
Read more about the renovations, and the history of the business, in Sunday’s Retail Roundup column.
Also in the column: Noticed the work going on at the old Rite Aid on Hardy Road in Vinton? A Family Dollar store will open there by the end of the month.
In the next few months you’re likely to see even more construction to make room for new dollar stores in Roanoke. Another new Dollar General store building is planned in southeast Roanoke, while a Dollar Tree has its eyes on a spot along Williamson Road.
What do you think has made Shaker’s so successful?

Where was Burger King at Valley View? I remember Chi Chi’s but not BK.
BK was basically where the Big and Tall store and Catherine’s are today. My mom once threw away her car keys accidently there and I remember the manager going through the lunch rush trash to find them for her.
@pmac
BK was right below Olive Garden if my memory is working right
