The question of whether you’d like your receipt with you or in the bag has been replaced by a new one at Sears and Kmart: Would you like your receipt printed or emailed?
Sears and Kmart began offering e-receipts last fall to its “Shop Your Way” rewards members to reduce clutter for customers and cut down on paper use.
Shoppers who opt to have the receipt emailed are asked to enter their email address on the pin pad. (They can also have the receipt printed and emailed.)
The receipt can be viewed through email, using mobile applications, or on the stores’ websites.
If you sign up for e-receipts, you’ll also receive special offers and shopping recommendations.
The option also makes it easier to return items without a receipt, a Kmart spokeswoman said. Transactions at the return counter can be looked up using the email address, a phone number, or rewards member number.
Have you used this feature at Sears, Kmart or other stores? Would you use it? If you prefer a paper receipt, why?
