Retail Roundup: Hampton Inn intends to tear down Flat Rock Grille and Texas Steakhouse to make room for hotel
Two vacant neighboring restaurants at Valley View will be demolished to make room for a five-story hotel with an indoor pool, if a developer’s plans come together.
Tennessee-based Thomas Properties LLC wants to build a Hampton Inn & Suites on the Flat Rock Grille and Texas Steakhouse sites on Valley View Boulevard, according to a rezoning application filed with the city of Roanoke. The sites together are about 2.5 acres.
According to the application, plans call for a hotel with 132 rooms and suites.
Thomas Properties LLC has both of the properties under contract. Flat Rock Grille is listed for $1.2 million. The Texas Steakhouse property is not listed.
A planning commission public hearing is scheduled for May 17.
Flat Rock closed in 2008. The owners filed for bankruptcy, and in 2010 the property was sold to U.S. Federal Credit Union for $1.05 million.
Texas Steakhouse closed in October. At the time, a spokesman for Boddie-Noell Enterprises, which owns the steakhouse, would not say why the restaurant closed.
