Retail Roundup: Pizza Pasta Pit to reopen after fire; Home Depot shoppers can use PayPal in stores
Salem’s Pizza Pasta Pit has been closed since a Feb. 1 fire. The owners of the Italian restaurant are planning to reopen in about two weeks.
The hot water heater in the basement sparked the fire, which caused about $175,000 in damage to the building and its contents.
Owners Susan and Jim Bonamo are using the reopening to introduce new items to the menu, and to update the furnishings and decor.

Also in Sunday’s column, shoppers at Home Depot can now use PayPal to check out. Home Depot is the first brick-and-mortar retailer to use the payment system, which allows users to make purchases without a credit or debit card.
Do you use PayPal? What advantages does it have over more traditional payment methods?

I use paypal for my business. I love it because you don’t have to reconcile reimbursements or additional payments – just turn in a receipt and you’re done.
Thanks for the update on Pizza Pasta Pit. I cann’t wait till they reopen. The best wood fried pizza in the valley.
Love the “Pit”!! It is my husband’s and my first choice for date night. Love the owners and all the staff and can’t beat the pizza!!!
I am also glad that the Pit is opening back up. The Bonamo’s are a great family and their food is delicious. Maybe one of those cash mobs or whatever it’s called would be a nice thing to do for them after they get re-opened? I’m sure they could use the support after all of the expense of getting the place rebuilt.
Great idea on the cash mob!
Looking forward to their reopening…they have a loyal following.
I’d also love to do a cash mob at Big Lick BBQ, near Towers. (Formerly Henry’s Memphis BBQ.) It had changed ownership a few months back, and is locally owned. My wife & I love the changes to the interior (and the new deck out back looks great) but it’s never crowded.
