Roanoke will keep its Best Buy store at Valley View.
The electronics retailer announced in March that it would close 50 stores to reduce costs. The news came as Best Buy released its fourth quarter results, which showed the company lost $1.7 billion, or $4.89 per share, for the period ended March 3.
Best Buy recently released a list of the stores that would close. Only two were in Virginia, one in Richmond and one in Fredericksburg.
Most of the stores on the list will close May 12, a statement from the company said.

Glad to hear that our local stores are staying open. We just had to take a combo TV/Blu-Ray player in for service, which could not be repaired, and got a new TV and stand-along Blu-Ray player to replace it. The replacement player turned out defective and we had to exchange that the next day. We’ve got the warranty on them, given our earlier experiences with failures…the warranties on products from Best Buy have been the only ones that have actually paid off, because every single product we’ve bought from them and gotten the warranty we’ve either had to replace or substantially repair, before the warranty expired.
I’ve noticed the service has improved in the past year. Once you could never find any help. When you did find someone you thought worked for Best Buy you soon found out it was just someone to sell you a service. How many times did I need help have someone walk up and greet me and then try to sell satellite or internet service. Have not ran into that lately and actually find real help…….most of the time. About time BB wakes up and smells the coffee.
Oh, DirecTV is very much lurking in the aisles at BEST BUY these days, so beware. Apparently BEST BUY won’t let their actual employees shill for DirecTV but they’ve allowed these “moles” to come in and pretend they work there. What is the world coming to?
