WOYM: Bojangles’ construction waiting on financing
Here’s another “What’s on Your Mind” update.
Plans for a Bojangles’ on U.S. 220 just south of Hunting Hills Plaza are on hold until the franchise owner secures financing.
Stan Seymour, owner of five of the area’s chicken and biscuit restaurants, said the loan for construction should come through this week. He said he’s not worried that he might be turned down because his other restaurants are successful.
Seymour has previously said that it will cost $1.8 million to build the 3,500-square-foot building. He already owns the land.
If the financing comes through, construction could begin in the next 4 to 5 weeks at the corner of U.S. 220 and Old Rocky Mount Road. The restaurant would open by the end of the year, Seymour said.
A sign announcing the new restaurant is no longer posted along U.S. 220 because someone stole it, Seymour said.
Meanwhile, a remodel will start within 30 days at Seymour’s Vinton Bojangles’. That restaurant opened in 1999 and hasn’t had a remodel since. Plans include expanding the parking lot, moving entrances and remodeling the inside of the store so it matches his newer ones.
The restaurant will be open during most of the work.

Been hearing rumors about Cracker Barrell coming to the new Wal-mart area on U.S. 220
Rumor has it that the sign was seen behind the Chick-Fil-A, about 1/2 mile up the road.
Wasn’t this planned for South Peak?
Cracker Barrell would be great!! Any more word on Bonefish coming??
@Bryan: The South Peak developers said at one time that they had a letter of intent from Cracker Barrel. In December, they said they thought the restaurant might opt to locate farther down U.S. 220. I am in the processing of checking on the latest.
Thanks Amanda. I’ve always thought that South Peak could bring in something a little better than Cracker Barrell i.e. Pei Wei, Macaroni Grill, etc.
P.S. I also hail from the Buckeye state too, but am not a “Buckeye”. Go Blue
Is Chipotle expanding in Roanoke with a second location? Also Christiansburg, Lynchburg, and Radford are on the short list of this fine establishment.
@Susan: I’ve heard that Chipotle is looking for a second Roanoke location, but that’s all I know.
For those asking about Cracker Barrel, I spoke with Philip Thompson, Deputy Director of Planning for Roanoke County. He said he’s not aware of any plans for a Cracker Barrel in Roanoke County. I’m still waiting to hear back from the South Peak developers. (And Chris, Thompson said he’s heard nothing on Bonefish. Sorry!)
Pei Wei! Pei Wei! Everybody chant with me… Pei Wei!
Never heard of Pei Wei, but I’d love a P.F. Chang’s
@RP – I believe that Pei Wei is a owned by same people that own PF Changs. Pei Wei is like a smaller and faster PF Changs that has the same quality of food. A lot more casual as well. It would do great here.
Not a fan of PF Changs or Macaroni Grill. A new diner opened on 122 near the lake. Hope’s Diner. The old AJs/Marcellas. Good food at great prices. Burger and fries $5. Dinner entrees $7. Two lightly battered fried catfish filets, fairly large house salad with homemade dressing, baked potato = $7. Crazy. They say everything is made in house. Two visits and so far, so good.
I would like to see a Noodles & Company Restaurant move into the Roanoke area. Has anyone eaten at the Noodles & Company? If,so what do you think of this restaurant?
Old Stan looks like he’s wanting some payback for the black eye that Chick-Fil-A gave him in Salem huh?
