3Peaks Endurance Sports in Salem to close
3Peaks Endurance Sports, a Salem store selling bicycles and running and swimming gear, will close at the end of the month.
Drew Carroll, who owns the East Main Street store with his father, Bill Carroll, said there weren’t enough sales to sustain the business.
The store opened more than a year and a half ago. Its last day open is May 31.
Bicycles have been marked down 25 percent, and shoes 30 percent. Everything else is 40 percent off.

Was at Towers over the weekend and they still have several vacant store fronts. Any idea if they will be filled soon??
@Chris: I think there might be some news out of Towers, but I need to get some confirmation and details before I report anything.
I heard from a good source that Towers has confirmed spots for Whole Foods, Costco, Chili’s, and Trader Joe’s.
I would LOVE to see a Whole Foods come to Roanoke!
Introducing Dylan. The Jokester McJoke-maker
@Dylan. Did IKEA pull out of towers location then?!? Lol!
But seriously. Has anyone ever reached Trader Joes HQ and ask if they have any interest at all in these parts? I know all the stores are company owned. Though someone besides the avg folk should let them know there is interest for them here.
@Dylan: Look what you started!
@Nurse: There was a glimmer of hope that Whole Foods would come to the former Ukrops site, but they apparently passed up the opportunity. Read more on that here.
@Scott: I think I’ve heard that Trader Joe’s has looked at the area. Unfortunately it takes more than just us clamoring for them to come to get them here.
I’m sure you’ll be reporting on these eventually if they are true, but I saw two building permits posted today. One of them was for a new yogurt shop that looked to be located in the retail building that currently houses Verizon in front of Starbucks and near Home Depot on Franklin Road. The other was for a demolition of the Taco Bell in front of Kohl’s on Franklin and to construct a new restaurant on the same site.
@Roa10: Another yogurt shop?!?
I did see the permit for Taco Bell and just spoke with the owner. Demolition will begin in June and the restaurant will reopen in late August.
Whew…we were down to our last 74 frozen yogurt places.
Seriously?
I would love to see Whole Foods come here too, but it seems odd for them to open at Towers when Fresh Market is there.
Oops, I should have read all of the comments before I posted mine. You got me, Dylan.
