Supercuts and Mirko Pasta to open this fall at Towers Shopping Center

Supercuts will open a salon at Towers Shopping Center in October.

The discount hair salon will open in an 1,160 square-foot space next to High Peak Sportswear off 23rd Street.

A building permit filed this week says Supercuts will spend about $9,600 to get the space ready for the hair salon.

There are several other salons in the area, including a Cost Cutters, which is located at Towers on the lower level. On the upper level is full-service salon, Les Cheveux Salon & Day Spa. And, The Cutting Edge, which for years was located downtown at Crystal Tower Building, recently moved in nearby at The Colony, a group of shops across from Towers.

I’ve also learned that the opening of Mirko Pasta has been pushed back to September, according to The Rappaport Cos. , which owns Towers.  Work on the restaurant space on the lower level next to Planet Fitness has been ongoing since earlier this year. You can read more about the Italian restaurant here.

Great news for Towers, badly needed new tenants! Now they REALLY need to get to work on fixing the traffic problem in their parking lot. Seems every time I go there and try to walk across the lot, I’m nearly run down by frustrated drivers. Does someone have to die before they use the revenue from all these new tenants to re-design the parking lot? The more new shops open, the more traffic they’ll get, and the harder it will be to get any work done.

@Spiny: I have the same problem when I park at Towers. Last year the shopping center’s owners said they were studying a new parking lot set up, but I haven’t heard anything about that lately. I should ask them what’s going on with that.

I’m curious as to what kind of parking lot set-up could improve towers lot. Maybe add stop signs like Kroger does and a few wide side walks to walk up to the building, which is between the cars. A few Target stores have some side walks to walk on, which stretch down the parking lot.

Heard Choptle is coming to Valley View. Amanda do you know anything about this? Also any word on why Channel 10 was at Ukrops site? I have not seen anything on the news yet about it.

@Chris: I’ve heard Chipotle is interested in opening at Valley View, but I haven’t heard anything definite. I responded to your question about Ivy Market on the previous post. Here’s what I said:

Don’t know if you caught the WSLS report on Ivy Market, but it was about a new performance agreement between the bank and the city. The Roanoke Times wrote about the performance agreement on June 5.

@Hans, I think a good start would be to eliminate the two entrance/exit spaces right next to each other. One should be a two-lane entryway, and the other a two-lane exit. Of course the problem is that people are so used to the current setup that it might result in a LOT of head-on collisions. I guess another option would be to close one of them so there was only one entry/exit right there, which might seem counterproductive, but getting everyone into a single flow pattern has to be better than having people coming and going in two different places with both parties assuming they have the right of way. Also, they need to eliminate a row or two of spaces closest to the exit, especially at Chipotle, because it’s SO easy for a backup to occur when people are trying to pull into the spaces closest to Colonial.
