Thelma’s set to reopen Saturday

Over on the Fridge Magnet blog, Lindsey Nair has news on the fate of Thelma’s Chicken and Waffles.

The downtown Roanoke eatery is slated to reopen Saturday, the restaurant’s landlord says.

We still don’t know what prompted the apparently temporary closure, but Lindsey will post updates as she gets them.

Who really cares WHY they closed. It is just GREAT that they are continuing to stay in business. Their food and down-home southern charm make them a GREAT addition to downtown Roanoke. More people should try to support them. Too many people go to the national chains, pay more and get less, than if they supported a local place.

I have been going to Thelma’s since they were on Williamson and have thoroughly enjoyed myself. If you have never been there, or it has been a while, take the time to patronize them and keep them open.

Three cheers for Thelma’s staying open!!!

It was a tax problem. They are such nice people and I hope everything gets resolved.

I can’t think of any better news to start the weekend with! Thelma’s has always been a great place to go for some good ole southern cooking just like Mom used to make. Their service has always been awesome and they are always very hospitable. Can’t wait to visit them again soon!

I have eaten at Thelma’s chicken and waffles downtown. Both times, the food is cold and the service is slow..The waitress/Hostess came back to our table 3 times asking what we ordered, because she would not write it down and the order came to us cold. Save you time and money for the service is horrible…If you like waiting and waiting for your food, then go there and sit around.

That’s great. I don’t make it to Roanoke for dinner that often but always enjoy Thelma’s. Don’t choose it if you’re in a hurry, though. They do take their time.

And every time I’ve been, they are “out” of several things we try to order, sometimes they’ll take the order and even come back to tell us this.

My uncle and I ate at Thelma’s once when they were near Willisom Road. They food nor service was memorable so I have not been back since.

switching restaurants for a minute, Sheila, I have driven by the Wing Boss on rt. 460 for many weeks and there looks like construction equipment inside but no activity for quite a while now. Could you find out if they are still going to open? thanks

Actually, I will forward that on to Lindsay Nair, she is in charge of the Fridge Magnet blog and will be handling all restaurant news while Amanda is out. Thanks again for your comment.
