Pole Fitness studio opens in downtown Roanoke

A former gentleman’s club cocktail waitress opened up what may be the first pole fitness studio in Roanoke.

Jenni Waters, owner and lead instructor at Arete Pole Fitness, was trying to lose post-baby weight, she said in a recent phone interview. She learned many dancers from her former gentleman’s club job transitioned from dancers to pole dancing instructors. She gave it a try and ended up losing more than 60 pounds in a year with pole dancing.

Waters shared what she learned with her friends. From there she started private lessons and last Monday she opened up her own studio downtown at 309 Campbell Avenue on the second floor of the Syncom building.

According to Arete Pole Fitness’ website: ” Pole dancing is a fun, physically demanding form of exercise that can make you fit and feel sexy at the same time. It is a beautifully progressive form of exercise that begins with moves that someone with no experience can quickly master; right up to demanding poses and combos that challenge even experienced dancers.”

The studio offers Pole Dance Classes for beginner to advanced, private group classes, pole parties, pole specialty classes and stretching for flexibility classes.

Classes prices range from $15 to $60. Free Intro to Pole classes are available by appointment and are scheduled in between regularly scheduled classes, according to the website.

The studio is planning a grand opening celebration Saturday. For more information on classes: aretepolefitness.com or (540) 330-2184.

I’ve been looking for something like this, haha. :) I am getting married sometime in the near future (no date yet) and wanted to do something active and fun for my bachelorette party. What better than a pole dancing class?! Sounds fun, risque and at the very least a little entertainment!

I have heard about pole dancing classes and how they help women to get fit and healthy. I really like theirs a beginner and private lessons, so we don’t look goofy in front of others! The prices aren’t bad either. Look forward to checking it out :)

I went to a pole fitness class last year while on a bachelorette trip in D.C. with a group of girlfriends. It was a BLAST! And, it’s an excellent workout. We were all exhausted by the end. I am SO excited that there’s one coming to Downtown Roanoke!!

Wow, only four years after the fad died. Maybe a zumba fitness center will be arriving next year. What next? Tae Bo?

Over/under on the pole dancing closure – 9 months. I’ll take the under.
