Wyrd Sisters yarn store closing, Blacksburg yarn shop to move in

Wyrd Sisters yarn store at Picadilly Square in Roanoke on Franklin Road is closing Aug.18.

The owner, Cate Leonard, is moving with her longtime partner, Kenley Smith, founder of Studio Roanoke on Campbell Avenue, to Nashville, Tenn.

Smith is pursuing playwright opportunities there.

Gina Bonomo, owner of Mosaic Yarn Shop in Blacksburg, is opening her second yarn shop in the former Wyrd Sisters location in the beginning of September. The Roanoke location will also be called Mosaic Yarn shop.

Leonard says she would like to open another yarn store in Nashville, Tenn., after she learns the market there. She is also considering online sales.

Leonard held knitting classes at her shop, also free puppet shows for children. She and local knitters staged what might have been Roanoke’s first “yarn bombing” earlier this year. According to a previous story, A “yarn bombing” is sort of the knitting equivalent of graffiti.

The shop will be offering 40 percent off all inventory until closing, Leonard said.

Okay, now I HAVE refreshed my browser, and all my recent comments are gone! What’s up with THAT???

…only to magically reappear as soon as I post. Am I the only one who can see them? Must be a glitch in the blog or my browser. Don’t think I’ve done any updates lately. Suspicious that they aren’t showing up under “Recent Comments” so I tend to think something has been set to “show Spiny his comments so he’ll think they posted but don’t actually post them”. :(

Hmmm… things look okay now, thanks to whoever fixed the issue.

Spiny – With Amanda away, it seems to be taking a little extra time for comments to be processed. Be assured, you’re there…

Thanks, Steve… they’d be there one day, then gone the next. Thought I might be the only one who could see them.
