Retail Roundup, Toad’ly Kids to reopen near Towers
Read the Retail Roundup here in case you missed it Sunday.
In Sunday’s column, I wrote about a popular Roanoke County children’s boutique of more than 25 years reopening in a new location.
Toad’ly Kids closed at the Forum shopping center on Starkey Road this summer. Owner Nancy Leggett retired to spend more time with her family. Here’s a post Amanda wrote on the store closing.
Jennifer Theirs is the new owner of Toad’ly Kids. She is a photographer and family friend of Leggett’s.
Theirs is moving the store from the Forum to the former Primarily Kids building on Colonial Avenue in Roanoke, across the street from Towers Shopping Center
Theirs will run a photo studio in the bottom half of the new Toad’ly Kids store, and the top half will sell clothing for newborns up to size 14. There will be an entire room dedicated to girls ages 7 to 14.
Theirs, who has an 8-year-old daughter, said she noticed a lack of fashionable, appropriate clothing for “tween” girls in Roanoke.
She said she intends to cross-promote with her photography studio, which will offer boutique photography for newborns, children and families.
“I’m very excited to carry on Nancy’s tradition of fabulous style and customer service. She has quite large shoes to fill, and I intend to do my very best. She has been such an asset in the planning process and will continue to provide valuable input as I take over the helm,” Theirs said.
The photography studio will start sessions in late October. The boutique will open its doors in early February, Theirs said.
Where do you shop for your “tween” girl’s clothing? Do you agree with Theirs? Does Roanoke have a lack of “tween” clothing options?

Awesome news! There is definitely a lack of fashionable places to shop for girls. I have a 15 month old daughter, and I come from a big city so finding more urban/boutique clothes for little ones has been a challenge. So glad that this store will be coming back
