Woodwick Candle Company opens Thursday at Tanglewood Mall

A Forest-based candle company known for its wood and ribbon wicks is opening at Tanglewood Mall on Thursday.

Woodwick Candle Company will open in a space behind Applebees near JC Penney, according to mall spokesman Brad Boothe.

Woodwick is a division of Virginia Candle Company and Smith Mountain Industries. It sells not only the Woodwick and Ribbonwick candles, but also diffusers, room sprays, sachets and other fragrance related accessories.

On the subject of Tanglewood Mall, several readers have asked when Five Guys Burgers and Fries is opening in the front of the mall where Charlie’s American Grille was formerly located. I’ve left a message with Five Guys. Boothe, the mall’s spokesman, said earlier this week that he should have an exact date soon. I’ll keep you updated.

This is great news! I love Woodwick candles, and just in time for the Holidays!

We were at the mall for trick or treat tonight and one of the five guys workers said sometime next week. They have gots bag after bag of potatoes out on the floor so they must be getting real close!

@Sara: I learned yesterday that Five Guys is aiming to open Tuesday, and if not Tuesday sometime next week. Thanks for your report!

I’ve been a fan of Woodwick for years but had no idea they were based locally. I always picked them up at Hallmark or TJ Maxx, but the selection was very hit-or-miss. Can’t wait to visit the store, they make great gifts.

Amanda, Do you have any information on the Sweet Frog location at Towne Square Shopping Center? They’ve had the paper covered on the walls for weeks.

Sara, were those bags of potatoes, or bags of peanuts?

@Jennifer, I will call the owner and see what’s going on. That store has been slow to open. I reported in March that Sweet Frog was going to open a store there.

Amanda, any word on the Cajun/Creole restaurant that was supposed to open at the old Henry’s Memphis on Brandon? Thanks.

@Art: I’ll have to check with food writer Lindsey Nair, who wrote this about the restaurant in September.

@Art: Bayou Lucy’s will open for breakfast at 8 a.m. either Tuesday or Wednesday, says owner Yolanda Jimenez.

Spiny, Five Guys fresh cuts their french fries everyday so they keep bags of potatos stacked up around the place. They also keep a board showing where the current potatos originated from.
