Great Clips to open at Towne Square Shopping Center

Great Clips is planning to open a salon at Towne Square Shopping Center in Roanoke.

The quick-cut salon company has leased 1,400 square-feet in the former Verizon Wireless store to left of Marshall’s, according to John Nielsen, a broker for the real estate company Thalhimer, which handles leasing at the center.

It is unclear when the salon will open. A spokesperson at Great Clips’ corporate headquarters did not respond to an email last week.

The company has applied for a building permit to demolish the interior and build new walls. The work is valued at $75,000, according to the permit.

These walk-in salons have been popping up more frequently. The Towne Square Great Clips will be across the street from Supercuts, which opened last year in the new building attached to the Rutgers Street Kroger. And, Supercuts announced this summer that it would open at Towers Shopping Center next to High Peak Sportswear.

Speaking of Towne Square — do you have any updated information on the Sweet Frog there? There still is paper on the walls, but the sign is up.

@Jennifer: I’ve tried several times to get in touch with the corporate offices in Richmond, but they aren’t responding to my calls and emails. I’ve been wondering about that, too. It’s been under construction for quite some time. Perhaps I should try asking the leasing agent at Towne Square if he knows what’s going on.

Could you post a reply comment as to what information you find?

@Jennifer: I will. I’ve emailed the leasing agent, so when I hear back I’ll put a reply here.

Noticed today that excavation equipment is parked on the site of the proposed Steak & Shake on Hershberger. Is this a sign that constuction could be ready to finally begin?

@DJ: Looks like it. I just found this “land disturbing” permit for “site work construction for Steak ‘n Shake.” I will call the franchisee Tuesday and see what else I can learn.

Any word on that Peter’s Seafood?

  8. Thomas | November 27, 2012 at 11:33 am

    Hi Amanda,

Do you know when cookout is going to be open?
    Thanks

  9. Amanda Codispoti | November 27, 2012 at 11:35 am

@OG: I have an interview with the owner today at 1 p.m. I’ll let you know.

  10. Amanda Codispoti | November 27, 2012 at 11:36 am

@Thomas: I was told Cook Out was trying to open by the first of the year. That might seem ambitious, but they broke ground on the restaurant the day they closed on the land, and it looks like things are progressing quickly.

  11. Amanda Codispoti | November 27, 2012 at 1:33 pm

@OG: Peter’s Seafood will be a carry out only restaurant, open for lunch and dinner and serving seven types of fish, either on a platter or a sandwich. It should open by mid December if not sooner. I am writing more for this Sunday’s column, so keep your eye out for it.

Where is Peter’s Seafood going to be?

  13. Original Greg | November 27, 2012 at 2:54 pm

    Thanks Amanda. That sounds interesting.

@Eric: Peter’s Seafood will open at the shopping center at the corner of Peters Creek Road and Williamson Road.

Howdy! Just wanted to update everyone that ground was broken (alot) today on Hershberger Road for the Steak-n-Shake Restaurant. . .
    dirt & pavement were flying!
(well, I am assuming that Steak-n-Shake is still going there beside McDonalds)…

I see the lights are on inside Sweet Frog tonight and it looks like people were doing some work in there.

  17. Jennifer | November 29, 2012 at 10:40 am

Amanda, Any news on Sweet Frog’s anticipated opening?

  18. Amanda Codispoti | November 29, 2012 at 10:54 am

@Jennifer: I’ve left a message and sent an email to the corporate office, as well as the leasing agent, and haven’t heard back from anyone. I’ll keep trying, and I might run out there today to see if anyone is inside working that might be able to help.

They are suppose to be there hiring people/doing interviews today from 10am to 6pm.

  20. Amanda Codispoti | November 29, 2012 at 11:10 am

@Jennifer: Good to know! I will definitely swing by there today.

  21. Amanda Codispoti | November 29, 2012 at 1:59 pm

@Jennifer: I stopped by the Sweet Frog at Towne Square and talked to the manager. They need to pass a health inspection and hope to open Dec. 12.
