Holiday traffic patterns are in place at Valley View Mall

Valley View Mall and Roanoke Police have changed traffic patterns around the mall just in time for Black Friday.

Drivers can no longer:

  • Turn left from westbound Valley View West onto Ring Road
  • Turn left from northbound Ring Road onto Valley View West
  • Turn left from southbound Ring Road at the Valley View Boulevard access road

In addition, police advise shoppers to expect traffic and allow extra time to get around the area.

Just another stupid move by valley view and the police dept.

    It works. Don’t knock it.

If the people who built the mall made the parking lot correctly this wouldn’t be an issue. Who makes a mall parking lot with only 2 places to get back out on the main street?

Thomas, that’s precisely the point. If not enough exits were the problem, why would they have to block some off to “fix” it? Look at Towers… the whole problem there is that you have TWO sets of entrances and exits right next to each other. At Tanglewood, just about all of the entrances or exits have a traffic light right there. The worst thing you could possibly do is to let everyone go wherever they please, and enter/exit at several different points. That’s going to create a situation where the “me first” mentality will cause serious backups. The goal with the “holiday pattern” is to keep things organized and keep traffic flowing. The only time you’ll run into problems is when you refuse to “go with the flow”. It’s all a big circle, so even if you have to go out of your way a bit, you’ll get where you’re going. Just don’t screw it up for the rest of us by being selfish. As michodo says, it works!

A lot of this will be fixed when and if they ever get the northbound on-ramp built over next to Best Buy. If the development opens on the west side of 581, that will take a lot of traffic flow also. I avoid the mall at all costs this time of year by shopping online as much as possible.
