Replay Games and DVD store on Williamson Road changes store hours, puts building up for sale

If you’ve driven by the Replay Game and DVD store in the 7300 block of Williamson Road near Hollins on a weekday you might have seen the for sale sign outside and the store’s darkened windows.

The store hasn’t closed, according to Lauren Petty, corporate operations manager.

The used video game and DVD company decided to cut back the store’s hours because it wasn’t seeing much traffic on the weekdays, Petty said. The store is now open Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sundays from 12 to 6 p.m.

As for the “for sale” sign, the company would like to sell the building to cut expenses such as property taxes and maintenance costs, Petty said. It is possible the store might move if the building is sold, but the plan for now is to lease the building from a new owner. The building not only serves as a storefront, but also the company’s warehouse.

The 9,110 square-foot building is on the market for $685,000, according to an online listing.

Replay Games and DVD has six stores located in Roanoke, Roanoke County, Rocky Mount and Radford.

There prices were pretty high the last time I went in and the trade in value they were offering on a couple of games is well below Gamestop. I wanted to shop in this store since it was closer but the pricing kept me from ever going back.

Thanks for the info everyone. I’ve left Petty a message to get more details on these other stores. She did tell me when we first talked that the company owns about half of the buildings that house their stores, and lease the other half. She said they were moving towards selling their properties to cut expenses.

I’ve also noticed that the Williamson Rd. store has gone through at least two managers in the past year, and is apparently hiring for other positions as well. Good luck finding anyone to sign up for a job they have no way of knowing is gonna be there once those buildings are sold.

    Spiny, agreed…

It still seems strange to me that they are selling the headquaters, I dunno.
