The long-awaited Ulta Beauty store at Valley View Mall has a soft opening today. A grand opening with giveaways, free makeovers and consultations and other gifts is scheduled for the weekend of Nov. 16.

The makeup, skincare, haircare, and bath and body store occupies a 10,000 square-foot space on the lower level of the mall where Abercrombie & Fitch closed in December. A full service salon takes up about 950 square feet inside the store.

The grand opening celebration includes:

  • Gift certificates from $5 to $100 or a free visit to the salon for the first 100 customers to visit the store Nov. 16, Nov. 17 and Nov. 18.
  • A bag with four free gifts to the first 1,000 customers to sign up for Ulta’s loyalty club.
  • Free makeovers and consultations.
Ulta carries more than 20,000 beauty products, 4,000 testers and 350 fragrances, according to a news release from the company. Brands include Bare Escentuals, Smashbox, Urban Decay, L’Oreal, Neutogena, Olay, Clinique, Estee Lauder, Lancome and more.

Thanks for the information! Just to clarify, they open to today and will be open all weekend and next week. But the grand opening with specials isn’t until next weekend.

More JC Penney news, proving it’s worse than even the experts most recently predicted.

Also, the stock closed at approximately 20, down from the 42 it recorded back when the announcements were initially made. I’ll stand by my prediction made when the changes were first announced – JCP will bankrupt and cease business if they do not abandon these changes.

Some of the most amusing ‘improvements’ the CEO wants to make are incorporating a ‘Town Square’ with ice cream kiosks, coffee kiosks, and Pilates centers. All of this for people attracted by the temptation of $7 blouses & $11 slacks of quality comparable to that of WalMart, KMart, and other low end apparel retailers.

I have noticed all of the construction in front of Crossroads Mall. . . but that building looks bigger than just a “Cookout”. . . any ideas??

Amanda — Any idea what their hours will be Friday – Sunday? I’ve checked the UltaBeauty.com webpage, but it still lists the Roanoke store as “coming soon.”

@Marimbist: Ulta is located inside the mall, and the mall’s hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday. The phone number I have for the store isn’t working, but I’ve emailed the mall’s general manager to see if she can confirm the store’s hours.

@Marimbist: The mall manager got back to me. Ulta’s store hours are Monday through Saturday 10 am. to 9 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

@Richard: I talked to Jake Copty, a broker with Thalhimer who handled the Cook Out deal. He says the building is just for Cook Out and not any other retail stores. He did say it is a big building. He promised to email me square footage and possibly building plans on Wednesday. He also says they are trying to get open by the first of the year, but that might be pushing it.
